Courthouse Employees Help Almost Home

Have you ever hosted an event at your home or place of employment? It could have been as simple as a Super Bowl Party or as elegant as a formal dinner. I have hosted many parties, and they are always fun. People love to throw parties to gather friends and family to celebrate an important milestone or just simply to get people together. Have you ever thought of using your event to raise money to benefit Almost Home? If you haven’t, you can.

St. Louis County Courthouse employees recently gathered over lunch to have a baby shower to benefit Almost Home. Laurie Fortenbury came up with an idea to honor Princess Kate Middleton by having a baby shower and donating the gifts to Almost Home. Another co-worker, Dorothy Maruska, agreed and planned the event. A few years ago, these same employees had a similar luncheon honoring the royal wedding. Angela Gabel, a St. Louis County Courthouse employee and Almost Home board member, said “We decided this was a more meaningful way to continue that tradition. We invited several women from our lunch group as well as other state and county employees that are interested in helping Almost Home. We had about ten women attend and several others contribute that were unable to attend.” It was that simple, and they are not alone.

All across the country, people have organized dinner parties, happy hours, baby showers, and garage sales to benefit non-profit organizations. These events are often called third party events. A third party event is a fundraising activity that is planned, funded, and hosted by a group or an individual to raise money to support a non-profit organization that is dear to them. Using an event you already have planned to raise proceeds for Almost Home is an easy way to give back to the community.
