I do a lot of the grant writing at Almost Home. Which means I am always on the hunt for the most up to date stats on teen pregnancy, poverty and education. One of my go-to sources for information is the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Kids Count Data Center. Each year the foundation produces a data book highlighting the well-being of children in the United States. Along with national data the foundation also provides information by state. This year’s 2012 data book was released last month and I thought I would share some of the Missouri stats that really stood out to me.
In the State of Missouri…
- 21% of children live in poverty.
- 9% of teens are not working and are not in school.
- 17% of high school students are not graduating on time.
- There were 42 births per every 1,000 females ages 15-19.
- 31% of children have parents that lack secure employment.
- 7% of teens abuse alcohol or drugs.
