Stacey

“Stacey’s” life changed when her mother was sent to prison. Between ages three and eight, she was shuttled from one relative to another, until she was put into foster care. She gave birth at 16 and found that no available foster family would take in a teen mom and her child. Even though her baby daughter was always well-cared-for, “Stacey” believed that she was unworthy of care, by adults or by herself. Almost Home helped her learn otherwise. She began to take pride in herself: her appearance, personal hygiene and surroundings. She also learned to trust others, to get along with her peers, and to earn positive attention instead of acting out. She has her GED now, and is working toward attending college.
