Classification: Part-time |   Reports to: Program Director

Position Overview:

Under the general supervision of Program Director, the Early Childhood Specialist will work closely with the Members and program staff to provide childcare services to clients in the transitional housing program. Early Childhood specialist will coordinate all childcare services provided by Almost Home, Responsibilities include monitoring the safety and well-being of children participating in the childcare program while modeling appropriate interactions for Members.

  • Supervises children ensuring safety and access to play and learning activities
  • Engages with children at the appropriate developmental level
  • Models positive interaction and redirection approaches for young moms
  • Coordinates all childcare volunteers ensuring coverage for programming and events
  • Communicates effectively with Members, program staff, and volunteers
  • Maintain client confidentiality as well as safety and ethical standards
  • Ensures Motivational interviewing, solution-focused, and trauma-informed approaches are maintained in client interactions
  • Participates in and completes in-service training requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, Associates preferred
  • Minimum of one-year work experience in a childcare setting preferred
  • At least one year of experience working with women and children desired
  • Proficient in use of technology including email and Microsoft Office software
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Belief in team approach and proactive in sharing information with others
  • High level of organization, initiative, attention to detail and follow-through
  • Experience working with hard to reach and at-risk individuals and families
  • Ability to exhibit emotional control, patience and persistence in stressful situations
  • Cultural competency and ability to establish positive rapport with clients
  • Able to manage confidential information with discretion and tact
  • Must pass a first aid and CPR course

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 40 pounds
